Mastering
While I feel it’s best for you to use a more-experienced mastering engineer (John and JJ Golden come to mind), sometimes in the world of independent music there just isn’t the budget for such a thing. As a result, I offer inexpensive mastering services for those on tight budgets.
There are two different pricing structures::
- Client-attended: $40 per hour
This is for those that want to be present for the mastering session. - Client-unattended: $2.50 per 1 minute of music ($25 minimum charge)
The final charge is based on the final total playing time of the disc. For example, a CD with a final playing time of 42:15 would cost $107.50 (43 1-minute blocks x $2.50.)
There is also a $25 charge for creating the final production master.
Unattended work is done at a flat rate based on the length of the final master in minutes. This rate includes unlimited free revisions. Attended work is done at an hourly rate. Revisions for attended jobs are also free and unlimited if the revisions are performed unattended. Attended revisions are charged at the hourly rate.
The procedure for Client-unattended sessions is pretty simple:
- Either a data CD-R or data DVD with the mixes in their highest possible resolution (i.e. if your session was recorded at 24-bits, 44.1 kHz, send me 24-bit, 44.1 kHz stereo WAV or AIFF files). You could also upload the files to our FTP server, or use something like Sendspace to send the files.
- I will master your album, then create a reference CD for your review, or upload files to my web site for you to download.
- If you have change requests (level changes, EQ changes, etc), I will perform these changes and send you a new reference CD, or upload files to my web site for you to download.
- Once you’ve approved the final reference, I will create a replication master for you. This is the disc you’ll send to the plant for manufacturing. I’ll also invoice you at this time.
