Back in the swing of things

I haven’t written much lately, mainly because there hasn’t been a whole lot going. Also, my laptop was in the shop for a couple of weeks, and I still have yet to get back in my Internet-centric saddle.

In January, I finished mixing the 5 re-recorded songs for the Matador reissue of Shearwater’s Palo Santo album. It’s going to be quite a package — a double LP or double CD with great artwork and 9 bonus tracks. The band and the label are really happy with the new version of the songs we recorded, and everybody in the band is a big fan of John Golden now. This makes me feel good!

Bad weather and bad timing in January derailed a few pending projects, including EPs for The Great Tyrant and 4 Days To Burn, and the final stretch of the new Jasper Stone LP. My hope is to have all of those finished by next week so I’ll have a clear slate going forward. The 4 Days To Burn 7″ on Dada Drumming is out now, and The Great Tyrant’s 7″ should be out in a few months.

Yesterday was one of the most productive days I’ve had at the studio: 3 songs, recorded and mixed in a day. The band is We’ll Kill You, a doom/sludge band from Dallas and Longview, and friends of the 4 Days To Burn guys. Setup was incredibly quick for me — I think we started tracking at 12:30, maybe 1:00. We were done with all tracking by 4:45 or so, and finished mixing around 8:00.

Tre Orsi hasn’t been super-active lately. Our shows with Handbrake and the Paper Chase went pretty well, though we had to cancel the Austin show due to sickness. We’re playing at the end of March with Hogpig, then planning on recording a 7″ in Bryan’s new garage/studio.

But today, I’m just going to sit around the house, do some dishes, and finish my taxes. SXSW is coming up, so I’ll get plenty of crazy in then.
